Runners begin the 2011 Run 'Round the Rose.
Saturday, July 14th is this year's date....  Please add it to your summer race schedule!

2012 marks the 5th anniversary of this scenic mid-distance run through the beautiful countryside of Lake Country Minnesota.  Starting at the renown Spanky's Stone Hearth Restaurant on the west shore of Rose Lake, runners can view the enormity of Rose Lake as they warm up and stretch for their endeavor... and the thought will go through your mind more than once, "I'm really going to run all the way around it?"

The miles pass quickly though, as competitors run along the local roads past peaceful meadows, farm fields, lakes and woodlands.  The 12 mile race is designed to give long distance runners a challenging tune up for their next marathon, but it also provides a rewarding experience for teams of runners of all capabilities.  2 person teams can do 6 mile splits and 4 person teams are able to run 3 mile legs.  While it is a competition, it was also created to allow runners of all abilities to use their good health and commitment to aid in raising funds for the American Diabetes Association.

Registration opens at 6am in the parking lot of Spanky's Stone Hearth Restaurant, located on Co. Hwy 4 between Frazee and Vergas.  The race will begin at 7am and 12 miles later, runners will finish as they cruise downhill on Co. Hwy 4 as it follows the west shoreline of Rose Lake in front of Spanky's.  It's an awesome course which utilizes blacktop and dirt/gravel roads and runners will circle Rose Lake on a counter-clockwise route.  Temperatures are typically in the mid-50s at race time and can be in the 70s or 80s by 9am.

Shuttle vehicles will transport relay team members to and from their respective legs located at the 3, 6 and 9 mile marks.  Water stations will be located at the relay break points as well.  Everyone is able to enjoy the beginning of the race as a group and post-race refreshments and awards will be available in the beautiful rustic lodge-style Spanky's Restaurant at the conclusion.

Participants can either collect pledges from their friends and family for their entry fee or can simply pay an entry fee to compete.  Pre-registation forms are available on this website and can be downloaded, filled out and mailed in.  Pledge forms are available for downloading as well.  Entry fee costs are shown on the pre-registration form as are deadlines for submitttal.  Race day registration is available.  Awards are given to Overall Champion; Open Male & Female gold, silver, bronze; 2- and 4-person relay teams gold, silver, bronze; Masters Male & Female gold, silver and bronze.

We hope to see you on July 14th!  And wish you a happy and healthy running season until then.  For questions please call the Race Director - Jim Jensen - at 218.850.0186, or email him at jimjensenusa@aol.com.
